Out of Europe – Three weeks in French Guyana – January 2014 – Part one

This winter, we planned of a herptrip in French Guyana, where we have some good contacts.  With Maud, Laurent, and Pierre-Olivier, we can visit the rainforest, until exhaustion !

Great trip, great landscape, great species !

Ps : Many thanks to Elodie, Antoine, Bob, Vincent, Maël, Philippe, Fausto, Johan, Antoine, Franck, Ivan, J.-C., etc !

Pictures of Laurent, POC, Maud & me.

Arriving in French Guyana

We need about 10h flight to reach the Airport of Cayenne where we were expected by our friend Elodie. Very tired, but great wish to start herp… So we take some minutes near the Airport. Then unpack suitcases, prepare lighting and camera equipements… and let’s go !

Near Kourou, our first plan was to attend the launch of the Ariane rocket. No luck for us, the launch date has been shifted. Ok… but we know that the surroundings of Kourou are great for Herping. Here is the place of the very rare Crotalus durissus ! Finally, we can’t find this snake, but lot of other amphibians and reptiles…
